Shadouf: An irrigation system that was utilized during early Mesopotamia.
Shank: A homemade prison weapon usually made of sharpened metal and attached to a boot.
Apparently, the two in our house are interchangeable.
Me: “So what did the early Mesopotamians use for irrigation?”
The Mouth: “A Shank”
Me: “Hmmm maybe in certain jail situations but I think you may mean a shadouf. A shank is a weapon made in jail. “
Big fits of laughter from both kids filled the dining room. For the rest of the afternoon the word of the day was “shank”. It was a verb, it was a noun, it was an exclamatory statement. Yes, in case you were ever curious it’s an all around word that can fill many needs. I guess I’ll tuck that bit of info away in case I ever do hard time.
